La Arquitectura Española es la expresión cultural urbana más importante de España, relacionada con la historia y costumbres de cada época, prolífica en obras de las mas variadas influencias y en profesionales innovadores.

A lo largo de la historia española muchos estilos arquitectónicos se desarrollaron en su territorio y todos ellos han dejado su impronta. Se dice que no hay un estilo español, sino que los arquitectos españoles son especialistas en desarrollar ideas creativas de una calidad cultural extraordinaria que dan origen a obras de magníficos diseños.

Evolución Histórica de la Arquitectura Española

Desde los vestigios del Neolitico, con las primeras construcciones de barro y piedra, pasamos a las primeras obras arquitectónicas en la época Prerromana.

En el siglo IV AC se desarrollaron la cultura céltica (Asturias, Castilla y Galicia) y la Ibera (Meridional), destacándose la arquitectura de los castros.

La arquitectura romana dejo en Hispania, obras arquitectónicas de importancia como las que se encuentran en la ciudad de Itálica, en Sevilla. Además de obras civiles romanas, verdaderos adelantos técnicos, como acueductos y puentes.

La invasión visigoda trae un estilo arquitectónico cuyos exponentes encontramos en San Pedro de la Nave en Zaragoza o San Pedro de la Mata en la ciudad de Toledo.

La invasión musulmana en el año 711 impulsó avances arquitectónicos provenientes de la cultura árabe. La arquitectura hispanomusulmana, la encontramos en obras como la Mezquita de Córdoba y La Giralda, con la típica decoración sebka. La cultura musulmana marco su impronta con distintos estilos arquitectonicos como los mozárabes, almohadones, almorávides, nazaríes, mudéjar….

Entre los siglos XI y XII  se desarrolló la arquitectura románica, de líneas mas simples y construcciones macizas de piedra exterior, destacándose la construcción de la Iglesia de San Clemente de Taüll y la Catedral de Santiago de Compostela.

Del siglo XIII al XV, la arquitectura gótica innovó los edificios con la introducción del arco apuntado y las nuevas bóvedas de crucería, ligereza estructural y excelente iluminación natural con características presentes en obras como la Catedral de Burgos o la Basílica de Santa María del Mar.

 

 

 

 

 

Simultáneamente al románico y el gótico floreció la arquitectura mudéjar, que mezcló estructuras europeas con decoraciones árabes. Resultado de la convivencia de las culturas cristiana, árabe y judía.  En Toledo hay que destacar la sinagoga de Santa María la Blanca.

A finales del siglo XV la arquitectura renacentista, de cuna italiana,  se asienta en España, un estilo clásico, muy ligado a la religión que se puede ver en el frente de la Universidad de Alcalá de Henares o el Monasterio del Escorial.

La llegada del recargado estilo barroco en el siglo XVII y XVIII produce obras arquitectónicas como la fachada de la Universidad de Valladolid y el Palacio de San Telmo, en Sevilla. El barroco internacional lo encontramos en el Palacio Real de Madrid y el Paseo del Prado.

El siglo XIX, es prolífico en estilos arquitectónicos diversos, ya que los cambios sociales de la época fueron intensos, encontramos ejemplos de Eclecticismo (Palacio de Comunicaciones de Madrid) Academicismo (Puerta de Toledo). Romanticismo (Palacio del Marqués de Salamanca), y el Personalismo (Parque de la Ciudadela de Barcelona), además del auge de las corrientes regionalistas.

El protagonista del siglo XX, es el modernismo cuyo principal exponente español es Antoni Gaudí, La Sagrada Familia en Barcelona es una exquisita obra de este gran artista. Arquitectos de la talla de Oiza y Sota elevaron a la arquitectura española en la década de los 60 y 70.

Las obras más fieles a la arquitectura modernista surgieron a partir de la segunda mitad del siglo, con el nuevo optimismo a partir de la muerte de Franco, la arquitectura evoluciono a partir de fin de los 70 y década del 80, con la integración a la Unión Europea, el aumento del turismo y una economía en expansión que fueron clave en el desarrollo de nuevas obras. Se presentaron nuevos exponentes de la disciplina como Enric Miralles, Carme Pinós y Santiago Calatrava, creador de Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias de Valencia.

 

De estilo deconstructivista se erigió en Bilbao el Museo Guggenheim en 1997 , diseñado por el genial Frank Gehry, una obra que posiciono a la ciudad como un espacio con estilo propio.

La Actualidad de la Arquitectura Española

Obras de una solidez y diseños de excelencia construidas en este siglo siguen distinguiendo a la arquitectura española como un exponente de vanguardia mundial de la disciplina, premiada en numerosas oportunidades, algunos de esos galardones son los que se entregaron a  Rafel Moneo por el Kuursal de San Sebastian y  a Emilio Tuñon y Luis Mansilla por la obra del MUSAC en la ciudad de León.

La construcción de rascacielos esta a tope entre los proyectos de las mejores firmas de arquitectos de España en Barcelona y Madrid, Cuatro Torres Businnes Area y la Torre Caja Madrid son ejemplos de las creaciones mas recientes en la ciudad capital.

En 2017 los españoles Carme Pigem, Ramon Vilalta y Rafael Aranda son galardonados con el Premio Pritzker, la mayor distinción de la disciplina arquitectónica a nivel mundial.

La Esencia de la Arquitectura Española

El espacio de desarrollo de la arquitectura española han sido las ciudades. La capacidad de los arquitectos españoles de mixturar en ellas lo antiguo y lo moderno ha sido clave en la evolución de la disciplina, que ha llevado adelante procesos de diseño y construcciones de obras donde todo suma: los edificios antiguos, las estructuras modernas y el entorno forman conjuntos urbanos armoniosos que, si bien han generado transformaciones con los modelos de vanguardia, no han perdido la esencia tradicional.

La mimetización de estructuras ha dado como resultado espacios modernos con identidad, una característica que atrae turismo e inversiones en arquitectura, generando la producción constante de proyectos nuevos innovadores e integrales.

Un ejemplo de esto son las “Setas de Sevilla”, una estructura contemporánea emplazada sobre un espacio antiguo, respetando la esencia del mismo y aportándole modernidad al entorno.
