La arquitectura rococó significó un cambio trascendental para el siglo XVIII, específicamente en Francia. La muerte del Rey Luis XIV significó el inicio de la libertad en todos los sentidos, incluyendo lo artístico y lo arquitectónico.

El término rococó es originario del francés ‘rocaille’, cuyo significado es ‘roca decorativa’ o ‘trabajo de concha’. Este representó el período artístico francés del siglo XVIII, comprendiendo más en específico de 1715 a 1774. Este fue el tiempo de reinado del rey Luis XV. Durante este período, el rococo plasmó un estilo muy intenso con mucha decoración heredada de sus antecesores. Sin embargo, su aspecto es mucho más alegre y travieso.

El estilo barroco quedó sepultado junto con el Rey Luis XIV. En se momento todos los mecenas del arte y arquitectura pasaron a ser parte de los aristócratas. Fue un tiempo que trajo placer y regocijo a muchos. Lo más común era ver como presumían de las actividades pausadas de la clase alta.

Características de la arquitectura rococo

La arquitectura rococo se caracteriza en principio por separar enfáticamente los espacios internos y los espacios externos en las construcciones. Para notarlo solo hace falta apreciar las fachadas: simples, sin muchas decoraciones. Observando en detalle se encuentran algunas molduras en puertas y ventanas de gran tamaño, creando una interacción entre el espacio exterior e interior.

Las puertas y ventanas de este concepto arquitectónico mantienen formas arqueadas. Gracias a ello, la rigidez de los ángulos rectos poco se nota en el espacio.

En cuanto a la arquitectura interior, estas cuentan con decoraciones cargadas, llegando a saturar. Las figuras cuentan con muchas líneas curvadas, formas de piedras, plantas y conchas marinas. Tiene un auge característico que evoca el lujo y las fantasías.

Así también, la arquitectura rococo incorpora jardines dentro y fuera de la propiedad. Esta incorporación deja por fuera el uso de esculturas, que pasan a ser para de la decoración exterior.

Ahora bien, uno de los aspectos de la decoración más llamativas del rococo es la distribución dada para cada uno de los espacios internos en la infraestructura. No solo es el modo de distribución, sino también que cada una cumple una función específica, resultando muy agradable.

Y es que la arquitectura rococo ajusta las habitaciones de modo que estas sean funcionales en conjunto con los otros espacios internos. Lo increíble de esto es que al mismo tiempo se combinan y crean una distribución acorde al espacio.

Debido a ello, las tendencias de la arquitectura rococo no fueron las más aptas para edificaciones de carácter oficial y demás residencias. Estas construcciones mantuvieron estilos anteriores.

A pesar de ello, fue un concepto arquitectónico perfecto para la construcción de estructuras de personas de la alta sociedad. Estos deseaban enfatizar el cambio de estilo y demostrar que su riqueza era sumamente grande.

Elementos de la arquitectura rococo

Colores pastel

Uno de los elementos principales que resaltaban este concepto arquitectónico es el uso de colores pastel. El rosa era muy usado para exteriores y al mismo tiempo era un color muy usado para las habitaciones de niños. En ese momento el rosa se consideraba un color masculino, tomándolo por un color rojo más ligero.

El uso de colores pasteles resaltaron la felicidad y ligereza que mantenía esa época. Este cambio contrastaba enormemente con el arte barroco donde predominaban las sombras y colores oscuros.

Líneas curvas

La arquitectura rococo hizo tendencia el uso de líneas curvas. Esta no solo se hizo frecuente en las obras de arte y en los ornamentos (que imitaban rocas, conchas y naturaleza). Al mismo tiempo las características de la arquitectura evolucionaron adoptando el uso de las curvas, como en los techos.

Fue en esta época cuando las habitaciones redondeadas fueron la moda en infraestructuras, pues permitía crear un momento de entretenimiento entre amigos mientras conversaban y debatían sobre poesía.

Decoración elaborada

Otro elemento destacado de este concepto arquitectónico fue la decoración elaborada. Se hizo muy común la decoración con oro. Como resultado, este aportaba sofisticación, armonía y claridad a los colores pastel. Al mismo tiempo daba un aspecto más lujoso.

Asimetría

El elemento más destacado de la arquitectura rococo fue la asimetría. El estilo barroco se reconoce por su equilibrio y simetría. Este hacía alusión a la perfección y el control que procuraba mantener el Rey Luis XIV. Ahora bien, en el estilo rococo, si bien tomo muchos aspectos del barroco, este se salió de control y tomó un giro muy asimétrico.

Al estudiar la decoración interna o externa en el diseño de un edificio del período rococo, es posible apreciar que, de cortar a la mitad la edificación, una mitad no reflejaría a la otra. Ambas partes son diferentes. Esta característica marcó mucho más la libertad y la independencia de este movimiento en el arte y la arquitectura.

Fueron muchas las edificaciones erigidas durante esta época, sin embargo, entre las estructuras insignes de la arquitectura rococo se encuentra:

Palacio de Versalles

Si bien es una estructura que data del siglo XI, este palacio francés fue remodelado para darle un aspecto más acorde a los acontecimientos y las tendencias del siglo XVIII, momento en que el rey Luis XV lo tomó para sí.

Palacio de Catalina

Este palacio ruso es ideal para el entretenimiento de verano. Fue construido en 1717 bajo las órdenes de Catharine I de Rusia. En los exteriores del palacio se puede apreciar el uso de colores pasteles.

Palacio de Charlottenburg

Uno de los aspectos más destacados de este palacio alemán es su lujoso interior. Entre ellos resalta una habitación con paneles color ámbar, adornos de pan de oro y muchos espejos lujosos.

Para culminar, podemos concluir que el período rococo se dio durante el siglo XVIII. Era un estilo arquitectónico lujoso, sofisticado y con muchos ornamentos. Su enfoque era orientado a la diversión y el placer. Los aspectos más destacados de esta arquitectura fueron:
