La arquitectura orgánica es un concepto arquitectónico basado en la unificación de edificios, estructuras e interiores con la naturaleza. Su objetivo es hacer de las personas uno con la naturaleza, de modo que puedan desarrollar todas sus actividades en un entorno natural.

El primero en usar este término fue Frank Lloyd Wright. Si bien se considera como un tipo de arquitectura moderna, esta se diferencia mucho de este tipo de arquitectura pues se enfoca en principios como ‘la forma sigue a la función’. En cambio, la forma de la arquitectura orgánica se apega a la naturaleza. Esto hace que los edificios rectos y altos sin decoración, comunes en la arquitectura moderna, no sean funcionales.

La arquitectura orgánica se desenvuelve en un jardín donde el papel de los edificios es ser nada más un elemento dentro de un espacio natural. Querer mimetizar la naturaleza en espacios internos y externos de las edificaciones no es tan nuevo como se cree.

El primer concepto de “arquitectura orgánica” fue dado por Frank Lloyd Wright, un arquitecto famoso de Estados Unidos. Su concepto se basaba en una perspectiva integral y natural, tomado como un prototipo arquitectónico nuevo. Wright fue conocido (entre sus cualidades) por ser un notable observador de la naturaleza, inspirado en procesos y estilos naturales construyó ecosistemas abundantes y sostenibles.

En los inicios de Wright como arquitecto, presentó proyectos que influenciaron a Louis Sullivan, uno de los grandes arquitectos de la revolución industrial y del momento. Ello repercutió en los ejemplos establecidos de residencias, promoviendo la aplicación de nuevas técnicas y materiales de ingeniería. Esto trajo como resultado casas con más tecnología, respetando las propiedades naturales del suelo, las condiciones climatológicas, atmosféricas y el terreno. Asimismo, poseían una estética diferente a las anteriores, rompiendo todo paradigma.

La arquitectura orgánica nace de la honra a los espacios naturales y el entendimiento de que la tranquilidad de la mente humana no se alimenta exterminando a los cuerpos que pertenecen a los espacios naturales. De este modo, las estructuras orgánicas se desarrollan desde el suelo haciéndose uno con él. De igual, manera se ven entrelazados los ocupantes de dicho espacio con el ambiente externo.

Al hablar de arquitectura orgánica no nos referimos a una tendencia estética o estilística. Cada estructura representa una manifestación de su programa, el tiempo invertido en diseñarlo, la conducta de quienes hacen vida en él, las propiedades y características del área.

A causa de que cada una de estas circunstancias jamás serán iguales, cada estructura orgánica se desarrollará de manera única. No obstante, gracias a la tendencia de crear estructuras que armonicen con su entorno y que faciliten la relación con agentes externos se crea una filosofía esencial latente en toda la arquitectura orgánica, cada una poseen cualidades comunes.

Características de la arquitectura orgánica

Dentro de la arquitectura orgánica se usan materiales naturales. Cada material que vaya a ser usado debe ser esencialmente de origen local, extraídos de fuentes de recursos naturales o que en la medida posible tengan el menor grado de procesamiento. Estos suelen ser materiales reciclados de origen industrial o nativo. El propósito del uso de materiales naturales se fundamenta en que su elaboración no haya requerido un alto nivel de procesamiento al fabricarlo. De este modo se respeta la naturaleza.

El método es un procedimiento arquitectónico que proviene del racionalismo o funcionalismo, representado por reconocidos exponentes:

  • Alvar Aalto – Finlandia

Estos movimientos trasladan una serie de características del racionalismo, predominando lo útil por encima de lo ornamental y, el desarrollo y evolución de plantas libres.

Materiales

A fin de optimizar la conexión interna con el espacio natural, los recursos naturales como madera y piedra que normalmente se aplican en la arquitectura orgánica. Gracias a que las inmensas superficies resbalosas se perciben artificiales, donde a menudo se necesitan. Estas emplean patrones que fragmentan la superficie o le brindan texturas.

Geometría
